The
borough's Planning Board voted unanimously Tuesday,
September 20, against granting the Freehold based
developer, D.R. Horton, another extension on its
application. The decision requires the developer to
submit a new application. |

|
At the September 20th Planning Board meeting, at the
motion of Councilman John Armeno, the GDP
application for the proposed Village Grande project
was dismissed as being incomplete after nearly two
years.
This in no way means the project is dead. It simply
means the Planning Board is waiting for the
developer to discover a way to acquire sewer and
water for the project and then resubmit a new
application.
At the September 20 meeting a representative for the
D.R. Horton indicated that the plan is to resume
test well drilling shortly. However, we currently
have home-owners with private wells adjacent to the
property that are experiencing serious water
problems, mainly little water or diminishing
pressure. This is no doubt due in part to a very hot
summer and lack of rain. Test well drilling now will
almost certainly aggravate an already serious
situation.
The CCH/HOPE Coalition has sent letters to the
Mayor, Town Council, Planning Board and the NJDEP
Commissioner and Office of Compliance to alert
officials of this problem. Anyone else
experiencing serious water problems should notify
the CCH/HOPE Coalition. We plan to be at the
next Hopatcong Town Council meeting.
Please remember the fight is not over! Thank
you for your support!

More
traffic! Longer lines at the stores! The end of our "country
way of life"! A bald mountain covered with roof tops where
there used to be trees and wildlife!
A dry well?
Hopatcong
officials seem to be interested in purchasing Stanhope
sewerage allotment to supply the as yet not approved Village
Grande project while sewerage for existing homes in
Hopatcong may be delayed indefinitely for lack of "gallonage". Once
the Village Grande development is approved it will be too
late! Both Hopatcong & Stanhope residents are teaming
together and saying "NOT IN OUR TOWN"... |

Did you
know that the Hopatcong Planning Board is considering the
approval of a high density senior housing development that will be
located between Hopatcong Heights and Sparta-Stanhope Road? It is the
single largest development ever proposed for the Borough of Hopatcong.
Did you
know that the development will have an
access road onto Durban Avenue between Durban Avenue School and Hopatcong High
School and another onto Sparta-Stanhope Rd?
Did you
know that this will consist of 662 units
of apartments, townhouses and single family dwellings?

The Stanhope
residents are outraged that their governing body is
considering "selling out" on sewer and water to enable
Village Grande approvals. The coalition hand
delivered a flyer to the residents of Stanhope on Sunday January 9th
to make them aware of the situation. Residents of Stanhope and Hopatcong
wanting to express their objections and concerns should contact the Stanhope
Town Hall. Read more on the
Stanhope Factor page. |

In an article ("Foot
soldiers fight to preserve nature and a way of life" -
Sunday, January 30, 2005 by Sally Goldenberg) a
representative of D.R. Horton, the developer, said "I think
there's a lot of fear and hype generating from this." in
reference to our website.
This is not true, nor is it our intent. We absolutely
research our statements before mailing or posting. Perhaps
HE is fearing the hype created by our calling out the
unanswered questions regarding this development? |
