Who we are
We are residents just like you from all walks of life. We
have reviewed impact studies done by the builder, attended planning board
meetings, talked to State and Federal environmental groups and soil and water
conservation departments.
Purpose
of this website
To educate Hopatcong residents about the pending 183
million dollar 662 unit senior housing project being considered by our town's
planning board. It consists of apartments, townhouses and single family
dwellings.
About the building site
The site is a tract of land approximately 300 acres
stretching from Hopatcong Heights to Sparta-Stanhope Rd. It was considered for
the Highlands core, defined as the most vital watershed lands in a region that
supplies drinking water to half of the State of New Jersey. The tract fits all
of the criteria to be included in the core; steep slopes, streams, ponds and
wetlands. It is also home to abundant wildlife and some species listed as
endangered.
Our decision
After considerable research we feel that this project
contradicts the Borough's Master Pan and will hurt Hopatcong. We think that
it is wrong for Hopatcong and should NOT be built as currently planned.
Our goal
Our goal is to do our utmost to bring our decision to the
attention of Federal, State and local officials and to make the residents of
Hopatcong aware of this pending project. We hope to enlist the help of residents
who are as passionate as we are about our town's future.
Ways to help
You can help by attending future planning board meetings,
talk to your neighbors, contact your Federal, State and local officials and
consider joining one of our two citizen committees.
