In a recent
newspaper article ("Foot
soldiers fight to preserve nature and a way of life" - Sunday,
January 30, 2005 by Sally Goldenberg) a representative of D.R.
Horton, the developer, said "I think there's a lot of fear and hype
generating from this." in reference to our website.
This is not true, nor is it our intent. We absolutely research our
statements before mailing or posting. Perhaps HE is fearing the hype
created by our calling out the unanswered questions regarding this
development?
We get information from experts - respected professionals including
Sussex County's planners and staffers at N.J. Community Affairs
Division of Smart Growth. We pride ourselves on presenting data as
accurately as possible.
As an example, the developer states "the project will not exacerbate
clogged roads because most residents will be retired". We know this
is not a proposed retirement community...it is simply considered age
restricted.
As such, Sussex County's planners have stated "that the traffic
estimates from developers of age restricted projects are often
substantially understated, because most people between 55 & 65 and
even above 65 are not retired, nor are the back-at-home kids/young
adults often living with them in these communities. Thus the traffic
estimates from the developers, which are apparently typically based
on a 'retirement' community, are modest compared to what actually
happens in these age restricted communities." We know what the
traffic is already like...we live here. Think of the impact an
additional 1200-1500 cars will have on our local roads.
The next two Stanhope meetings will be on March 22nd and 29th, both
at 8PM at the Stanhope Town Hall. Representatives of CCH/HOPE will
be in attendance. Please join us in helping them to voice their
concerns to Stanhope's Town Council regarding the impact on their
community from this project.
Thank you, and remember - Not In Our Town!
Sincerely,
CCH/HOPE Coalition |
